Alumnus credits UW MBA Consortium for optimizing management skills
During the economic downturn of 2008, many of Jon Page's counterparts were out of work and returning to school to obtain their MBAs.
Page never lost his job, but he realized that he would need his graduate degree to compete with his peers in the future. It took him five years to obtain his MBA, but Page knows it was well worth the effort.
"My current company favors those with graduate degrees in the hiring process," Page says. "My MBA from the UW MBA Consortium was a significant factor in my current company and the two subsequent promotions during my tenure."
Page recalls that the most important learning experience he had in his MBA classes was developing the ability to communicate with other generations in a way that makes them feel comfortable.
"As a member of Generation X, I deal with people older and younger daily," Page says. "As a leader, I have had to consider others' opinions and goals more than my own. Understanding how to optimize my communication style to be effective has been a hallmark of my management style."
Page urges people to consider obtaining a graduate degree through the UW MBA Consortium.
"I would certainly recommend the UW MBA Consortium to others and have already done so," he says. "The flexibility and value generated by the degree have been invaluable in my professional life. I learned many different things and was exposed to many dynamic people that shaped my mindset after graduation." |
